Reiki: what it is and how it can help you

Home/Blog/Article

There are therapies that are not easily explained with words. Reiki is one of them. There is no muscle manipulation, no pressure, no visible technique. And yet, something happens. Something shifts. Something quiets down. Those who experience it often describe it as a feeling of deep calm, of gentle warmth, of letting go without knowing exactly what they were holding on to.

A bit of history

Reiki was developed in Japan in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui. Its name combines two Japanese words: Rei, which refers to universal energy, and Ki, the vital energy that flows through all living beings. The practice is based on the idea that when this energy circulates freely, the body finds its own balance. When it becomes blocked, discomfort, unease and fatigue appear.

How a session works

During a Reiki session, the person lies down fully clothed. The therapist gently places their hands on different points of the body, or holds them at a short distance, channeling energy to unblock stagnant areas and restore natural flow. There is no abrupt movement, no pain, no intrusion. Only silence, presence and a clear intention to accompany the process of the person receiving.

It is common to feel localized warmth, subtle pulsations, a progressive muscular relaxation or even emotions that surface gently. Each person experiences the session differently, and that is part of what makes Reiki so unique.

What is it good for

Reiki does not replace any medical treatment, but it complements it remarkably well. It is especially valued by people going through periods of stress, anxiety, insomnia or emotional exhaustion. It is also a resource for those navigating change, grief or transition who seek a space of support without the need to speak.

Among its most reported benefits are reduced muscle tension, improved sleep quality, a greater sense of mental clarity and an overall state of serenity that can last several days after the session.

Reiki at Lotus Masajes

At Lotus Masajes we incorporate Reiki as a natural extension of our philosophy of holistic care. Sessions take place on Monday mornings, as a way to start the week from a place of calm, intention and reconnection with oneself. The environment, carefully curated down to the last detail, makes the experience even more profound.

If you have never tried Reiki, this might be the time to let yourself be surprised. Sometimes, what the body needs is not to be touched harder, but to be listened to more slowly.
